Do you know how to choose your wedding videographer?

You’ll need to interview them, and just like any job interview it’s good to be prepared. Here’s our essential questions to ask them, and exactly why you should be asking these questions.

Choosing a Videographer

It’s not an easy task. You may find it even harder when you are choosing one for your wedding. The fact here is that your wedding videos may be underwhelming if you cannot get a good and professional videographer to help you. To this end, you have to learn the ways to make the choice. In fact, there are a few things you have to know when you are interviewing the videographer.

Without any surprise, there are some things you have to do before you actually interview the potential videographers. You need to do some research and find the companies you may want to choose. A shortlist of videographers will be important here. It will be important for you to meet with them in order to find the one who can really help you. You can consider visiting some wedding fayres to help with this, and of course word of mouth is always a good way to find someone, recommendations are wonderful.

Researching your Videographer

After you have done your research, you will probably have your shortlist on hand. The next step is to meet and  interview the videographers. This part is extremely important in order to make sure that the videographer can really help you and can provide you with the video of your dreams. Choosing the right videographer to take the videos is different from choosing the printer to help you to print the wedding invitations. You do not need to interview the printer. Yet, it is important to meet your videographer, ask questions, research and establish if they are the right fit for you.

The first question you will ask is about the portfolio of the videographer.  You are also trying to take a look at the style of the videos. The idea here is that you will want to make sure that the videographer will take some videos in the style you want or love. Don’t just consider the weddings they have previously filmed, as of course they will be working to a style that the bride and groom wanted. Also take in to consideration other films they have produced, what you’re looking for is the quality produced not necessarily the content and style.

Filming Equipment

Now, you will have to ask about the equipment. Generally, professional videographers will have all the equipment needed. This include the lighting equipment, sound and audio equipment,  as well as the equipment to protect the video cameras or lighting systems when it rains. Always ask these questions, after all you wouldn’t use a mechanic whose only piece of equipment was a spanner.

But don’t be blinded by tech, a quality camera doesn’t make a videographer, any more that a grand piano makes you a concert pianist. Be sure to check the quality of their work!

Communication

Remember, it is also important that you communicate with the videographer about your needs. You may have some types of wedding videos you want to shoot. If you do not communicate well with the videographer, they will never know about the styles and types of videos you want. Don’t be scared to tell them what you want, it makes  their job easier. Pinterest, Youtube etc are all great for providing examples of what you like, and even in some cases what you don’t like.

Once all of these things have been covered you’re ready to make your choice, I really hope that choice is me and I look forward to producing a wedding film you will cherish for many years to come.
